Make a beautiful Mother’s Day or baby shower cake with butterflies flying up 2-tiers of white fondant. It’s a simple yet elegant design, perfect for the cake decorator who is a fondant beginner and looking to try out new techniques.
Apply a crumb coat to a 6” double layer round cake and a 4” double layer round cake. Cover both cakes with white fondant. Place the 4” cake on top of the 6” cake.
Tip: See How-To Cover a Cake in Fondant for step by step instructions.
Using fondant veining tool, create swirls and spirals as shown in the image.
Tip: Draw a light impression first, and then deepen the line by going over it multiple times.
Mix four ounces of fondant with Neon Purple Gel color. Roll out to 1/8” inch using a non-stick rolling pin with cutting guides to ensure proper thickness
Cut a ¼” wide strip using a Fondant Ribbon Cutter.
Adhere purple fondant strips around the base of each cake tier using icing.
Place large Butterfly Layon Cake Topper on the center front of the 6” tier. Bend wings to create dimension in the butterfly. Adhere with icing.
Attach Butterfly DecoPics® up the sides and on top of the cake. Use pins on the butterflies to stick into the cake and bend the wings for dimension.
